The SKSS Visual Arts Department believes that the quality of a student’s life is uniquely enriched in essential ways by the development of skills and values learned in the creation of artworks. Visual arts encourage the students to function on multiple intellectual, analytical, thoughtful and expressive levels.

Contemporary Landscapes

2014 Art Calendars

This year, we proudly bring to print, our eighth annual calendar! Working with the theme, Contemporary Landscapes, students were encouraged to identify, reflect on, and capture the unique and richly diverse scenery within the Kamloops region. The artists needed to connect with a setting, a season, and a time of day. For many, the ultimate challenge was in creating a personally meaningful, “contemporary” style. To be successful, students spent many hours exploring a full range of image development possibilities and experimented with a variety of acrylic painting techniques and strategies. The wide variety of styles and colour palettes seen in this calendar reflect the diversity and creativity of our students. The compelling nature of the images reflect the rich connections our students have with the Kamloops' landscape.

Family, friends and community members welcome

We should all be thankful for the inspiration that comes from our surroundings. By sharing our artwork though this calendar and community exhibition, we can encourage others to value the natural beauty of Kamloops, and see that our environment gets taken care of.

Thank you for your interest in this exhibition of youth artwork.
